Solution Nitriding is a nitridng process done in a special vacuum furnace at high temperature and over pressure. It provides a nitrogen enriched structure to most stainless steels. It it primarily used for Martinsetic materials where case depths of up to .040 deep are required. It can also be used on austenitic materials such as 300 series and PH materials. Some materials may require aging or tempering after this process. Bearing for aircraft are typical applications. It provides a deeper case depth than conventional nitriding and a corrosion resistant structure.

The Solution Nitriding, or SOLNIT, process significantly improves corrosion and wear characteristics. The solution nitriding of stainless steels is done in a vacuum furnace. This produces .030-.040 case depth on certain Martinsitis Stainless Steels. PH steels & 300 series stainless can also be processed. Typical applications are Aircraft Control Bearings, Shafts & Gears for SpaceCraft, Military Weapons Systems and Jet Engines Components, just to name a few.
