CRYOGENIC TEMPERING TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Cryogenic treatments are used to further stabilize various steels. They are typically used to reduce the percentage of retained austenite in tool steels. Cryogenic treatments are also common in some stainless and aluminum alloy materials.

The standard process is to treat materials between -200 degrees F and -300 degrees F for 12 to 60 hours depending on the material. Many materials require a tempering process after the cryogenic process. Ionic Technologies performs this operation in our vacuum tempering systems.
